Looking at Yesterday and Tomorrow

Yesterday, as many of you may have realized, was Rabbithole Day. The day when, in honor of Lewis Carroll's Birthday, some of us turn our posts to LiveJournal into a trip down a rabbithole for one day, spinning some fantastic yarn. I have to catch up on the posts in [info]rabbitholeday, but I've read some good ones. Matt McIrvin went all science fictiony, I noticed. I went with something vaguely Lovecraftian, but not horrific, more wistful.

(So, just to clarify: there is no hole in downtown Sacramento.)

Heh, "Lords of Noise"? Is that what we're calling ourselves now?

Of course, most of the locals on my friends list already know about this, but I thought I'd post it just the same. Heck, I figured [info]jwgh might be interested to know about people from his neck of the woods coming out here to perform.

I wanted to try doing the rabbithole thing, but couldn't think of anything clever.

Hard to believe, I know.

Anyway, I didn't do it and then The Big Guy has his attempt at self-surgery.

So my current theory (which, of course, may be cursed) is that if you do not produce a fake rabbithole day, you will get a real one.

Something to keep in mind for next year, folks.

It made me notice how many other days were the same as Rabbit Hole Day. On the radio, Lewis Carroll's birthday was completely overshadowed by Mozart's (this was a big round-number birthday for him, too), and on the classical stations the Mozart was inescapable. It was also the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz (making it Holocaust Memorial Day) and the anniversary of yet another space tragedy, the 1967 Apollo 1 launchpad fire. (And the Outer Space Treaty was signed on the very same day, just to make Robert Heinlein crazy.)

January 27 was also the birthday of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, Hyman Rickover, Donna Reed, Troy Donahue and Samuel C. C. "It's called the J particle" Ting.
